Week In Review - September 14-20
Time for another Week In Review post as I look back on the past events of this week. Still keeping busy with the sites and promotions and I may even post a video up tomorrow…..maybe!
Niche Blog Created
I ended up finding a nice little niche earlier this week and was lucky enough to find the domain name for the main keyword available! Knowing that I couldn’t pass up this chance, I bought the domain and whipped up a site. Promoted it a little bit and looked for some links. I’ve been waiting for it to get indexed and it finally got indexed tonight about 2 hours ago. Although I did do something earlier today that I think may have very well guaranteed that it got indexed. While I am not 100% sure on this I am almost positive. I am testing out this method with another niche blog that I have that has not yet been indexed.
The first niche blog is showing up in 9th position for the main keyword without quotes and in 6th position for the main keyword with quotes. Not too bad considering most of the sites ranked above it are PR2 and above. So I am excited to see what happens with it while I go out and find some more ways to promote it. I still have not yet written an article for the site yet which I may do tomorrow depending upon my time.
Site Updated and New Theme
I mentioned in the last Week In Review that I would be changing up the site into a more formal resource for people to come and find out information. I am still planning to do that but I would like to keep a more personal blog as well like this one so that I could still blog about more personal stuff while linking out to all my blog friends and the like. I have decided that most likely I will be moving this blog over to a subdomain that still sits on this domain. Why? Because with the new theme coming out and the change in pace to maximize search engine traffic and rankings I really cannot have a followed blogroll, KeywordLuv and a followed CommentLuv. That is just way to many links that are being followed on my blog and I don’t even have probably a 10th of those links coming back.
I realize that the old links that I do have will need to be taken care of as far as redirection. I may just go around and contact the bloggers and ask them to switch the links to the correct places because it won’t actually take that long. The only thing I cannot really go back and change is all the comments that I have left but that is ok.
You may or may not be wondering why I want to change the theme of the blog. Technically I am not changing the theme of the blog, I am only changing it to a different domain. Like I said, I want to provide a resource to others. So go buy a new domain name!! Hah, well I have thought about that as well and I am still thinking about it. The only thing that I don’t like about that idea is that I will have to rework on getting links and sit in the sandbox for a little bit unless I can find an aged domain. I am still in limbo, if you have any opinions or comments on this I would love to hear them. Most of you will probably tell me to go get a new domain and to leave this one alone. Depending upon the outcome of the comments I will largely determine what I will do.
Anyways, the new blog whether it shows up on this domain or another will provide SEO, WordPress, Traffic Generation and Blogging tips. I know that you can’t really post up anything new because most everything has been said already but there are people still new to this whole blogging and internet stuff. So I figure I may as well capitalize on it while at the same time teaching others. I am still working out the details for it all so I will keep updates posted here for anybody that is interested.
Traffic Stats
I haven’t been commenting a whole lot over the past few days mainly because I have been working on other sites. So the traffic has dropped a few visitors which I expected. Though I have seen a small jump in organic traffic coming from Google so maybe that is a prelude to future success.
FeedBurner Subscriptions
As of right now I am up to 3!! lol ;)
I am not all to worried about it for my personal blog really, sure it would be cool to have more but I do realize that a lot of the content I post on here clashes with some other posts that I put. Everything is kind of jumbled and doesn’t flow, another reason for a new blog/domain. I also think another reason may be because the RSS icon is so small and it is also black. It kind of blends in along with the sidebar and doesn’t really pop out, which is something that I have improved upon with the new design that I started working on 2 days ago.
Interesting Posts
5 Simple Steps To Get Started Website Flipping This Weekend - Jay wrote up another great post for his Flippin Friday’s series. Some good stuff in the comments too, like how WordTracker sucks!! ;)
Would Morals Get In The Way Of Money? - Tara came up with another superb post that attracted quite a bit of attention. She even stated that she had gotten a flood of emails in her inbox after only a few days of publishing the post. It was interesting reading the comments and seeing how other’s reacted to the overall theme of the post.
While there were a few other posts that were good, those 2 really caught my attention and got me thinking.
Whether I keep this blog as it is or move it to a subdomain, I will be doing a little bit of housekeeping on it and changing up some minor things with the theme that I left out. I need to reorganize the categories and tags because right now they are all kinds of jacked up. Though I dont even show tags I want to

Haha I am one of those 3! It is great when you have a reader straight from the beginning. I would love if you could show me how to creat niche sites so I can start making some money from niche sites also

Ah, well if you are interested than I will come up with a post tomorrow for you and hopefully shed some light on the subject. I know that there are many other sites that explain it also.
Check out the post that I linked to from Jay. He does a bit of site flipping and has some great tips on how to go about flipping a site.

Hmmmm, I guess you could go with a new theme/domain…or, you could keep this one and implement what it is you want. Honestly, and this is just my thoughts, the more I talk to folks and other bloggers/marketers, I realize people are looking for more of a personal site nowdays.
With all the social networking and web 2.0 stuff, folks expect to get information from a person and not just a content resource. Nothing is stopping you from talking about all those topics you mentioned, and still keeping it personal.
If you want to stop giving out the link love, the put no follow on lol, no biggie, folks still get a link and the possibility that traffic will come through the link.
You could get a new domain, but, I think you should just build on with what you have. Folks are starting to recognize your name, and your domain. If you change it now, that’s a whole new brand you have to promote. Your buddies won’t get mad if you nofollow their links, I’m pretty sure of that ;)

Ah Joe! I can always count on you to leave your mark and give me something to think about.
You made some good points about people starting to recognize my name (apparently some think I am an alien) so you are right that I have some recognition already. That is one of the things that has kept me from switching already.
I am still gonna put the new theme up maybe in a little bit or tomorrow. I think I have all the kinks worked out and hopefully everything will go smoothly. I have customized some plugin files and what not to get it how I wanted so I will have to be importing those over into my blog. The new theme is pretty simple but it gets done what I want it to. I may expand upon the graphics later but for now it is at least in the general layout that I want. Once I get it up you’ll see what I am talking about with the RSS icon being more prominent ;)

I’m with Joe for sure. I think you could definitely work with what you’ve got. You already know that I’m big on branding - we are going to be revealing our new logo in the next few weeks!
People are tending to go for the personal feel with blogs because of that exact reason - branding. ImWithJoe.com for example, his image in the corner is infamous, and that is what you see everywhere, on every single blog he hits! Consistency is crucial so If you’re going to go with a new theme try and keep that in mind.
I think you’re good with the domain. :)

@Elijah
Hey, thanks for the input! I can see how a more personal feel would be a little bit better. Unfortunately the theme that I came up with doesn’t allow for much display of myself as an individual. I developed the theme in mind for search engines and readers. But not necessarily to remind people of who I am.
So if I am going to make it more personal I am going to have to change some things up with it. I might get it up today, not sure, maybe later in the night when there is even less traffic in case something gets screwed up.
