Week In Review – August 31 – September 6

It’s Saturday and that means another weekly review. I have to say that this week has been very productive so far and I hope to continue the momentum with the upcoming weeks. I started posting quite a bit more on the blog and while I still don’t have a set posting schedule I try to do at least 1 post every other day.

Niche Blogging

I am starting to get more into developing the domains that I have and that will give me more things to discuss throughout the week. I have a deluxe hosting account with GoDaddy.com which lets me host unlimited websites with them so long as I don’t go over their limits. So instead of my domains sitting there collecting dust and not making any money I figure that I need to put at least some content on them.

If anything the search engines can start indexing them and who knows, maybe I could get a small amount of traffic. I am going to turn a few of my domains into niche blogs and go the route that Garry follows in using AdSense to generate revenue. The hosting from GoDaddy is around $7 a month so if I could generate at least that much from a few sites I would basically be making a profit. Well, along with the yearly domain registration fee of the domains, but that is only once a year so it shouldn’t be too hard to scrape together enough from AdSense clicks to cover that. Shouldn’t be too hard to achieve right? Just throw up a post or 2 once a week on each blog and let them slowly get indexed.

However, some of the domains that I am going to be working on will require far more effort. I have a domain that is going to be used to promote deals in both the online and offline world. Similar to what Garry did with his blog during the Labor Day holiday weekend. I spent quite some time watching him produce a lot of content and after talking with him about it a little bit, his hard work definitely paid off. He really inspired me to get my ass into gear and to put my domains to good use. I know that I most likely won’t be producing as much content as he does but I know that I can do a lot better even if I do one thing then doing nothing at all. Garry is a great guy and you should really get to know him and read his blog. He just recently posted a great tip about getting free content to write about. You need to check out the post he made, it will hit you like a ton of bricks, at least it did me. While it may not necessarily apply to your blog or any of your sites, it is thinking outside of the box that makes you money.

Figuring out something to do differently then everybody else and developing your own unique style. It has worked out for Garry and it continues to work for him.

FaceBook Advertising

Yeah yeah, I am all over the place with FaceBook. I know it but I am determined to be successful with affiliate marketing and I need to man up and start spending some money in it. I was so afraid to lose money that I wasn’t giving the campaigns and offers enough of a chance to do anything other then lose money. The thing with affiliate marketing is that you have to always test things out, even when you find something that works you never know if something else will work better. It is all about maximizing your profits and making as much money as you can. The more you make the more you can put back into advertising and essentially exponentially increasing your income.

Before I was working with offers that I thought might work or ones that I just picked because I did. When it concerns FaceBook you are limited with what you can promote. They have quite strict rules so you can’t just pick any offer out there and promote it. They don’t allow ringtones or make money at home/get rich quick schemes. Ok well, you can promote make money at home offers, but they have to actually work and people have to spend money to buy it. I just decided to steer clear of it either way as I don’t want to waste time creating an ad just to have it turned down because of the type of offer.

What I did do was get in contact with my manager over at AzoogleAds. I decided to go with a dating offer because I have heard that those work on FaceBook. I picked the 2nd highest converting offer that they had for the last week and I figure that if I can’t get this to turn a profit, then I just need to move on. If I don’t make money from something that everybody else is making money at I need to stop wasting my time and find something that does make me money. I don’t spend my time online just to waste it away for nothing. I spend quite a bit of time reading the blogs of others that do make money and getting ideas from them.

So far I am a few dollars behind with FaceBook. I am fine with that, I have created an ad with 4 different images to test it out. I think I may have found one that might be a keeper. I am going to test out different ad text with it over the next few days to see if I can get the CTR up. So far it has been holding the highest CTR so far out of all the ads that I have tried. I actually didn’t think that the image would do well compared to the others that I tried out. The image that is getting more clicks is taller then it is wider and barely makes it halfway across the ad. I’ve heard that you should always shoot for wider images because you are able to show more instead of wasting space. So it is kind of going against what others have said, maybe it is just the way the woman looks.

The Blogosphere

This week has actually been really great for me when it comes to blogging and meeting other bloggers. I think I have come across about 6 new blogs that I am reading and I have been working on commenting more on the blogs that I do read. In turn it has increased my traffic and I have actually had comments. Geez, whadda ya know, I guess its true that commenting on other blogs is a great way to get comments back. Traffic is still low but the blog is a lot more active then it was last week which makes me happy. While I’m not looking to become the next ShoeMoney, JohnChow or ProBlogger I would like to get some steady traffic to the blog.

I’ve really enjoyed reading some of the posts from the new blogs that I have found this week so I’d like to give you a quick heads up and a quick shoutout to some of the great posts.

Stop Being Afraid And Start Making Money – This post really hit home with me, I have been in the same exact position lately and it’s time I get my shit together, no more excuses!
