Week In Review - August 10-16
So this is going to be a little mini series of posts that I will be starting up this week. Like the title explains, I will be going over things that I have accomplished during the week. I will also provide a few mentions of things that I may have found useful or interesting during my web browsing adventures.
FaceBook Advertising
I had decided to try out my luck advertising with FaceBook about 2 weeks ago after reading a few blogs of others who have had some success with FaceBook. I whipped up a couple of ads and had actually made 2 conversions within the first 2 days of having one ad up. But alas, that is all that I have gotten so far.
I have 3 different campaigns going right now. I have 5 different ads setup for one of my campaigns which I thought would do really well because I checked out the landing page which is a sign up form and I really liked the look of it and the layout. It gave a great overview of the service, was very clean looking and overall gave me a really great impression of the site. However, I have sent 37 clicks to it and have made only 2 conversions. Which I guess isn’t too bad, but I only make $1.25 a lead so I am down money.
I’ve spent about $17 so far with FaceBook and made $2.50. I am wondering what is not working especially with the campaign that I mentioned. I guess 2 conversions in 37 clicks is ok? I just want more conversions obviously so that I can make money with it. I also have my CPC very low as I was just testing it out but each and every day I am getting less and less impressions. I am going to stick with the campaign another week and see what happens with it. Gonna try out a few more campaigns to see if I can get something going.
Back Into Blogging
I had given up for a bit on this blog. I had more important things to take care of and get fixed so I had to put this on the backburner as they say. But I am back and have focused a lot more of my attention on posting more frequently while making the rounds around the blogosphere and getting my name out there. I still have very little traffic, if any, but that is ok with me. I think I have written some pretty good posts so far and my Google Webmaster Tools series should hopefully be bringing in some traffic from Google pretty soon.
I also just installed the BlogRush widget today and got approved. I have seen it on a few other blogs and remembering reading about it once on a blog a few months ago. I’ve heard that it can bring some traffic but not a whole lot. It is kind of setup as a pyramid scheme, although it isn’t a scheme really. You refer people to BlogRush, they sign up and start generating traffic. The more traffic they generate the more your posts will show up in the widget I think. At least that is my understanding from watching the video on the BlogRush website. We will see how it works out and I will post up a review to let you all know what happens.
I still need to come up with an “identity” for my blog. I need to get a logo or something made up because as it stands now, I don’t have any branding on my blog which you should really have. I have a place for a logo and my blog name up in the navigation and I am going to at least add my blog’s name up in the navigation today.
Screwing Over Affiliates
About 30 minutes ago a post showed up in my Google Reader from Garry Conn. It was titled, Why Are You Cheating Me and My Family Out of Our Referral Links? and Garry goes on to vent his frustrations. Garry has found out that people have been removing his affiliate id’s when they sign up for products that he recommends and either replacing it with another persons or just totally removing it. This is total bullshit and I along with Garry and many of his readers don’t understand why people would do this other then to somehow get back at the affiliate.
Garry works extremely hard and devotes a lot of his time to helping people and when a few of those that he helps screw him over, it puts a huge damper on what he does. I’m sure that you would feel the same way if your readers would do the same to you as well.
Web Hosting Review Site
So I’ve been kind of slacking off on my web hosting reviews site. Mainly because I started a job 2 weeks ago and have been extremely tired after I get home. I think I might change up the backend of the site and move it all over to a database so that users can actually compare the web hosting plans considering that many web hosting review sites out there don’t provide this. It’s all about providing a unique service and great content to get people to come to your site. I am also going around looking for ways to promote the site and get links back. I may hold a small contest or look into article marketing as I have read that that can bring some traffic along with the backlinks.
So that was the quick week in review. I could go on and on but you would just get bored and leave! I have a post lined up for tomorrow on how to use Gmail to keep track of multiple email accounts, so stay tuned for that.
