NASA On Twitter, How Cool Is That!

A few weeks ago while I was tweeting on Twitter I somehow came across an invidual who had sent out a tweet to @MarsPhoenix. Now when I first saw this I wasn’t 100% sure exactly what it was so I clicked through to find out that it is the Twitter account for the Phoenix rover that is currently on Mars right now. Cool! I’ve always had an interest in space and while I never wanted to be an astronaut there is just something about the universe and how very little we know about it that intrigues me.

So of course I decided to follow the Twitter account and just see exactly what they tweeted. In all honesty it has been quite interesting following the tweets. You can send a tweet to the account and somebody will get back to you or you can just listen in and see real time updates of what the rover is currently doing.

Earlier today the MarsPhoenix tweeted about other accounts that they have on Twitter. Winter is quickly approaching on Mars and it seems as though this may be the last we ever hear from the Phoenix rover again. Scientists are not sure whether or not the rover will be able to boot back up when it warms up again, next summer on Mars is May 2010! In the tweet they also provided a link to a list on the NASA website of all of their NASA Twitter accounts.

They have 20 accounts dealing with various different programs that they have launched as well as different satellites and other rovers out there exploring the universe for us. Twitter is really expanding quite quickly and becoming more main stream each and everyday. I would really like to see more large companies branch out into the whole social media world and really start to connect with the people who buy their products.

I know that this post is quite short compared to most of mine and I usually don’t post about this kind of stuff but I thought that this was something that was really interesting. I know that there has to be a few of you out there that read my blog that are interested in the universe and what it holds, right?
