How To Check If Your Site Ranks For A Keyword In Google
I was just doing some searching around in Google and while I was browsing around I noticed a link down at the bottom of the page in the footer section. I am not sure whether or not this is something new but it is the first time I have seen it or even known about it.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the seach results, look at the footer and you will see a Search within results link. Click on the link and it will take you to a new page telling you how many pages are indexed for that keyword and gives you an option to search within the indexed results for whatever phrase you choose. So most likely you would enter your domain name to see if Google has your domain listed for that particular keyword.
Pretty neat huh? While I haven’t figured out whether or not you can find what position you rank for in Google using this technique you can at least find out if your page is indexed for that keyword. Fear not, there is a way to find out where your site is listed using a different technique which is listed below.
The following tip was provided by Rich Hill who runs Link Money, a site about search engine optimization, blogging tips and making money online.
I use firefox, but chances are you can do this with most any browser.
1 – From the Big G search page, select preferences, then go in and change the number of search results returns from 10 to 100.
2 – Do your keyword search.
3 – Then I go up to the top firefox tool bar and select “edit,” then “Find in this Page,” and type in your website url or enough of it so that it would be a unique word, and there you have it.
4 – If you are within the first 100 you will see your url in green and if it is red, meaning it is not within that 100 group search, then just go to the next 100 group. Keep going until you find it and count it down.
Using this technique along with the one that I listed you can easily find out whether or not your site is listed in Google and where it is listed in Google.
P.S. When you are searching for your site in the listings, instead of having to count how many results it is down the page, mouse over the Cached link next to your site URL. Look in your status bar and look for &cd=(number goes here) without quotes. This number is the exact rank position in which your site is listed.
