AMR #8 - Too Much Too Soon
So I was busy chatting with Keith (keithjameslock.com) earlier today. We were talking about affiliate marketing and I was asking him some questions that I’ve been wanting answers to. He seems like quite a smart guy and he really is about helping others.
Anyway, the whole reason for this post is because while I was working on my site earlier today, I’ve come to the realization that I started too big. Sure, the site has potential to make a lot of money eventually, but it’s just taken up too much time right now and I feel that I could have better spent that time doing other things. I could have easily created 3 or more sites along with setting up campaigns and such for them while driving traffic to them and possibly making money. Instead I have been busy with the site, it still isn’t finished and I still have to work on driving traffic with it as well as creating campaigns and ads for it. Now that I think about it, I would have rather had taken the chance at losing money by having 3 sites up and running, then having a site that isn’t even finished right now, because, there is no way that the site could even make any money right now.
So, I am going to focus on getting a few guides written up as well as the F.A.Q setup. Then I will throw the site online and start working on smaller projects that are easier to setup and quicker to get running. Once I get the smaller sites setup and have some experience with affiliate marketing, I might focus on larger sites and try my luck.
Not to say that I won’t continue working on my site, but I definitely won’t be spending a whole lot of time on it. I’ll add a new host every other day or so along with a new guide. Probably alternate between the 2 to keep things updated and the bots interested.
So lesson learned, hopefully I should have the site up and running this weekend. Have to head out of town tomorrow and will be heading back home on Thursday. And then I will really get things together and focus a lot of time and effort into creating smaller, more manageable sites.
