AMR #6 - Moving Along
So I didn’t get much time to work on the site today. Spent most of the day out doing some real work instead of inside. It was nice to get out though instead of sitting here all day long plugging away. I managed to add 2 more hosts to the site so I am up to 3 total now. 7 more to go and I’ll be done for the first part at least.
I hope to get at least 4 hosts entered tomorrow on my web hosting comparison site as that will leave me 3 hosts for Sunday and possibly some time to write a small guide or come up with the FAQ. Not sure how it will go, but we will see. I think my next project will be a lot smaller then this for as far as affiliate marketing goes. I feel that I have already wasted too much time on this site and that I probably could have produced at least 3 smaller sites and already have campaigns and what not running. But I decided to start with this so I have to stick with it. Can’t just drop it now as I have invested too much time into it already to not finish it.
I’ve been reading quite a bit of blogs lately and it seems that most people are thinking that moving to mini sites instead of just landing pages is the way to go. So in a way I am already ahead of the game, but I wouldn’t consider this a mini site. It is a full fledged site that will have a lot of content on it and although its main purpose is to make me money, there will also be a lot of useful content on it as well. So I am hoping at the same time that people find the content and that it helps them at least. Maybe I will get lucky and garner a few one way backlinks!
Oh and since I have a lot of content for each host’s page, the page sizes are pretty damn big. Upwards of 35kb which is huge for a page, but there is a lot of text on it. The page only shows one section at a time, but really there is a whole table for each section, so that is the cause for all the text. I have tried to think of some ways to somehow dynamically load the text when each tab is clicked on to reduce the page size, but it seems like it would be a lot of extra work. I know it isn’t good to rush things and that is not what I am really doing here, but I don’t want to be wasting my time either on getting something working that I don’t really need.
Fortunately, almost everybody nowadays has high speed internet whether it is dsl, cable, t1 or quicker. So even though the pages are quite large compared to most, they should still load up quite quick and I don’t think that it is really going to be a problem in the end. However, I am definitely going to be using the WP-Cache plugin as this will greatly decrease the bandwidth usage and keep the site running much smoother.
I think I may move up my posting to once a day instead of every other day like I said when I first started building this site. At least until most of the bulk work is done and then I may move down to every other day is really all that I will have to post is statistics and those won’t be that exciting. Other then that, there isn’t much else to post on the blog front.
See you tomorrow!
