AMR #2 - Work, Work, Work!

Phew! So I am almost done with the designing phase of building up my site. I spent almost all day yesterday designing a basic layout of the site. It took me longer then usual because I am working with WordPress and so I had to get used to working with their template system. I was a little bit frustrated at first because things weren’t going how I wanted them to, but after about 2 hours I finally got the hang of it and things went good from then on.

Spent all day today, close to 12 hours, detailing the basic layout and structure as well as adding graphics/colors to the site. I still haven’t come up with a logo for the site but I have plans to work on one this weekend. There are only a few minor things that I need to work out and get fixed before the site will be ready for its content.

Ahhh……the content. I am dreading this part, but it has to be done because without it…well, I have a useless site. Since I will be using Commission Junction for the site and the site’s focus is web hosting, I get to go through each advertiser’s site, and fill in the data for each plan. Yeah….it’s gonna take awhile but in the end it’ll be worth it I hope. Before I decided to work on this site and actually get it going, I had set it up with some data from all of the CJ advertisers. I have 36 hosts and each of their hosting plans simple data such as disk space, bandwidth, price and whether or not the hosting is on a shared/vps/dedicated server. I even recorded reseller/ecommerce accounts as well. But do to the way I set up the database, it will just be a big pain in the ass for me to try to get the info to display correctly how I want it to.

So like I stated before, once I finish up the few small details left for the site, I will begin the long task of entering in all of the host’s data. Currently Commission Junction is showing 43 advertiser’s programs that I have applied to from when I first tried starting the site up. I bet there are a few more, but 43 would be a good starting point and should hopefully add a good chunk of content to my site.

The site just isn’t going to be pages and pages of host’s plan info. I plan to add in a guides section detailing how to setup a website, transfer a domain name, and possibly some more advanced guides. As well as the guides section, a frequently asked questions page as I think this could prove quite useful to the visitors of my site.

Ah, I forgot! Banners for my site as well as some good keyword text links. Gonna have a page where I provide text links and banners for people to link to my site. Once I get all the hosting data plugged in I’ll start working on which keywords I am going to target so that I can provide some text links if people decide to link to my site. I’ll add the banners later as those aren’t as crucial, plus I have a feeling I might get more exposure with text links since they are a lot smaller and a lot less intrusive.

Not sure what keywords I will go for exactly. I knew going into this that the web hosting market was really really over saturated. But I decided to give it a shot, because I figure, if I can come out successful with a site about web hosting, I can pretty much be successful with any other topic.

Designing the theme was somewhat fun although at times it was very tedious and I almost gave up and took a break. Which I probably should have done, but then it would have taken that much longer to get things done. So I still have a busy weekend planned ahead for me. Lots to do as I hope to have the site live by mid next week.
