A Facebook Adventure
That’s right, I’m gonna give Facebook advertising a try. I tried using PPC with Yahoo and that did not work out, at least not yet. Though it isn’t Yahoo’s fault, even though I would like to think that it is. I had thought that I came up with a good niche and that it would do well, considering that the person who prompted me to try out Yahoo PPC was making some good money with a similar niche. I setup 3 different campaigns and only made 3 sales in the end. I haven’t tracked everything down to the penny, but I think I may have came ahead with about $10.
$10 isn’t a whole lot of money, although it is a profit. I don’t think that the problem was my keywords or my landing pages or site. I think my problem was my niche! Now, I know that there are those of you who will say that you can make money in any niche, well maybe this just isn’t my niche. After trying out the 3 campaigns and a Squidoo page it just wasn’t working out. Plus, the affiliate program I was with had really bad tracking and a really bad setup.
Anyways….I kind of got discouraged with this whole affiliate marketing thing and took a mini break from it. But now that I am working again at a shitty job I realize that to make myself happy that I am gonna have to be successful with affiliate marketing. Being able to work on my own hours, under my own terms and when I feel like it is something to really look forward to. However, I know that I can’t just sit back and rake in the money, at least not yet, but affiliate marketing has HUGE potential. If you spend some time reading other affiliate’s blogs and actually implement their strategies, you can turn your boring day job into making $1000 a day from home.
Not that this is the case with everybody, but it is definitely possible. I’m not a whole lot into the whole social media scene, I just recently got into it since starting up my blog. But after reading about it so much and listening to others, the amount of traffic that you can put yourself in front of is just insane. As you know there are hundred’s if not thousands of social media sites out there. Obviously some are larger then others and this is where I have decided to give affiliate marketing another try. After reading quite a few other blogs, following links from their blogs to others, I came across the blog of Neil Turner.
Neil started in affiliate marketing earlier this year and has since become quite successful. Recently he wrote up a post detailing his last month’s earning where he brought in close to $30,000 in revenues! Not bad since starting in April I would say. After reading through Neil’s blog I realized that he has had quite some success with making money from Facebook. Now, if you ask me, I wouldn’t mind having the success that Neil has had so far and he shows no signs of slowing down. I will even go as far to say that he is my inspiration for trying out my luck with Facebook.
So with all that said, I whipped up my profile on Facebook. Luckily on Neil’s blog, you can find a page with Facebook coupons that allow you to get $100 in free advertising. There are actually 4 coupons on the page, but only the $100 coupon still works, the others are invalid unfortunately. So I followed the instructions and got my $100 coupon, not too bad huh? I headed on over to MarketLeverage and started searching for some offers.
The first offer I picked, thinking I was smart was a “make money with no effort” program. I setup my ad and awaited for the approval. The next day after getting up I checked my email to find a warning notice that Facebook did not appreciate that I had chosen that type of offer. Oops! Sorry Facebook. It’s all good though, I realize that they want to provide a great experience to their users instead of scams and schemes.
I made my way back over to MarketLeverage and started looking for a new offer. There is a huge diversity of people on FaceBook so almost any offer that you can find will have an audience. However, FaceBook updated their advertising guidelines a few months ago and became very strict on what exactly you could advertise. I picked out my offer, made an ad and awaited for approval. Long story short, I ended up with 18 clicks out of 48,078 impressions. I know dismal CTR but I got some clicks nonetheless. The clicks didn’t end up converting however and I think it may be because I wasn’t targeting any keywords. So before writing this post I rewrote the ad and added some keywords. Since it is too early to tell if it will be a success, I will leave you all with an update tomorrow.
Wanting to diversify, I searched up another offer on MarketLeverage to test my luck. After setting it up, getting my ad approved and letting it run for about 10 minutes I had already gotten 3 clicks. What’s even better I actually had one of those clicks convert!!! It was a great feeling seeing that I had actually made money with MarketLeverage within 10 minutes of actually using one of their offers. I had signed up with them about 2 months ago but never really tried out an offer. As of writing this post, I am still behind about $3, I am keeping my budget small to test the waters.
I definitely plan to keep you updated on my adventures in FaceBook. I can honestly see a lot of potential with it and I don’t think that it is going to be slowing down anytime soon.
Once again, I would like to thank Neil and his willingness to post up some great FaceBook advertising tips on his blog. He has recently written a series about how to get your FaceBook ads approved as it seems that most people are having a problem with that. I definitely recommend heading on over to his blog and checking it out. I just wish that he would post more!!
